Hovedinnhold

Boris Balakin will present on the use of Nanofluids in Solar Energy on the 17th of September.

Anstract: Nanofluids are stable dispersions of nanoparticles in liquids. Due to the exceptional surface-to-volume ratio of the particles, the nanofluids absorb solar radiation with very high efficiency and low thermal leaks to the environment. When used in the most convenient and the cheapest flat solar collectors, the nanofluids enhance their efficiency by 10-20%. This is especially important in Norway, where this type of collectors demonstrates the worst results. Moreover, using the nanofluids in a concentrated solar power application, we observe a very efficient generation of highly superheated solar steam. This process finds multiple applications in solar distillation, desalination, and disinfection. This presentation will demonstrate our experimental results on the use of nanofluids in solar thermal applications.

The seminar will be held from 12:15 to 13:00 (we open the doors at 12:00) at Høyskulen på Vestlandet (HVL) in room G118 (on the ground floor, walk through the canteen to the back corner of the building for access). It is free and open to all interested parties, so bring your lunch and join us for an interesting presentation followed by a Q&A session.
