Hovedinnhold

This event is now digital-first. The platforms will be Canvas and Zoom and we have extended registration until June 1st.

The 2020 pandemic has demonstrated the many ways that music can emerge out of, and in response to, periods of individual, local or global crisis.  At the same time music itself has been left in crisis by the pandemic, with no area of musical life unaffected, from musicians left out-of-work, music education and music therapy halted, festivals and concert venues closed down permanently.   In this course we consider the ways music and the musical lives of individuals, communities, networks and institutions have been affected by this and other forms of crisis.  Topics include but are not limited to:

  • How has music emerged during this crisis at individual, local, global levels and in relation to social, educational, artistic, financial or health challenges?
  • In what ways have musicians, musical institutions, services and organizations responded to the pandemic?
  • How have other crises of our time influenced our understanding and use of music?
  • How has music been implicated in other times of crisis historically and/or across cultures?
  • Music in lockdown and confinement, in isolation or solitude.
  • Music at home, kinship and family

We are honored to announce the confirmed keynote speakers:

  • Prof Nina Eidsheim, University of California, Los Angeles, USA

  • Dr Thomas Hilder, NTNU, NOR

  • Dr Simon Procter, Nordoff Robbins, UK

  • Dr Rasa Šmite, Programme director at RIXC, LAT

  • Dr Ingrid Bjørkøy, Queen Mauds University College, NOR

  • Dr Sunniva Skjøstad Hovde, Queen Mauds University College, NOR
