Vision and Mission

Vision

To be a centre for interdisciplinary studies focussed on the geo-biosphere and a central hub for international research in geobiology.

Mission 

CGB aims to develop new fundamental knowledge about the interaction between the geosphere and biosphere and the roots of life. We use our diverse competencies to educate a new generation of interdisciplinary geobiologists, who will tackle fundamental questions related to the complex interactions between Earth's geo- and biosphere and develop novel approaches for study.

 

Research Themes

CGB research focuses on geobiology of the deep ocean hydrothermal systems and how volcanic hydrothermal processes support chemosynthetic life. The link between volcanism, water-rock interactions and life is a fundamental question that forms the scientific basis for the Centre.
