Summer School in Tyrol

Between the 20th and 30th of June 2010, 18 PhD students and 15 lecturers from Europe and China were gathered at the University Centre Obergurgl (Austria) for a summer school on ’Monsoon variability, teleconnections, and impacts on mid to low latitude glaciers’.

Hovedinnhold

The daily programme consisted of lectures and PhD student presentation mixed with good meals and excellent hiking possibilities.

Atle Nesje and Henriette Linge (GEO) were among the lecture holders: Atle gave two 1h lectures on ‘Holocene climate variability – a global perspective’, as well as a 90 min lecture on ‘Reconstructing glaciers and deriving past climate changes from glaciers’. Henriette gave a 90 min lecture on ‘Reconstructing glaciers from cosmogenic dating’.

The University Centre Obergurgl (1940 m asl) is located in the village of Obergurgl (ca 400 inhabitants) in the Ötztal Alps in the municipality of Sölden. The area has numerous peaks over 3000 meters and several glaciers and provides a perfect setting for a summer school on glaciers.

The summer school was organised by the Centre of Climate and Cryosphere (Univ. Innsbruck, Austria), the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (Univ. of Bergen, Norway), and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China).
