Fifth and last field report from Jan Mayen

CGB PhD student Eirik Gjerløw is stationed on Jan Mayen Island. His month there is drawing to a close. We have now uploaded his fifth and last field journal post.

Hovedinnhold

In this report Gjerløw tells us The final sampling he undertook - digging down into ash deposits to study the eruption history of Jan Mayen. This time one sampling site was near the wreckage of a German WW2 plane. He has now completed this summer's field season and is again on board the GOSars on his way back to Norway. Before they leave the Jan Mayen area, however, they will take some gravity cores of the sediment deposits around the island for more information about the history of the island's volcanic eruptions.
