BBB Seminar: Ole A. Andreassen

Breakthrough in schizophrenia genetics – implications for disease mechanisms?

Hovedinnhold

Ole A. Andreassen,
Division of Mental Health and Addiction, Oslo University Hospital and Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo

The disease mechanisms of schizophrenia remain a major enigma. Recent genome-wide association studies have lead to the finding of both common DNA variants of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and rare genetic copy-number variants (CNVs) associated with schizophrenia. With increasing sample sizes more markers are being discovered. The potential implications of these results for the pathophysiology of schizophrenia will be discussed.
