GLOBVAC Projects

The primary objective of the Global health and vaccination research programme (GLOBVAC) is to support high-quality research with potential for high impact that can contribute to sustainable improvements in health and health equity for poor people in low- and lower-middle income countries.

Umbilical Cord Cleansing for the Prevention of Newborn Infections in Uganda

Ninety-eight percent of the approximately 3.3 million deaths in the first 28 days of life occur in low and middle income countries (LMICs), yearly. A third of these are associated with infections and this proportion rises in areas where at least half of the births occur at home like Uganda.

Malaria Chemoprevention for the post-discharge management of severe anaemia in children in Malawi, Uganda and Kenya

The main objectives of this project are to evaluate whether it is safe and efficacious to routinely prevent malaria by giving antimalarial drugs during the first three months after discharge from hospital.

This project consists of previously conducted randomized, placebo-controlled trials in India and Tanzania, where half of the participants received high doses of vitamin B12 in early life.
