What is your experiences with the University of Bergen?

I had a very positive experience at UiB. Prior to arrival I found that communication over any queries I had was prompt and helpful. Staff and students were very friendly and approachable. The introductory week was clear and helpful and I enjoyed integrating with the norwegian students on mentor week. The university itself was in a really nice and safe area with up to date and modern facilities.

What did you study in Bergen?

I studied two geography courses at the University of Bergen:

  • SAS8-GEO: Scandinavian area studies - Geography: Environment and Society
  • GEO231: Theories of Migration and Development

I found both courses very interesting and topical. I enjoyed having a variety of lecturers who took topics that were particularly relevant to them. I found the aims of the course clear and relevant to the examinations that were undertook. I particularly enjoyed undertaking excursions with scandinavian area studies as it gave me greater insight and exploration of Norway, she says.

How was it to study and live in Bergen and Norway?

It was an amazing and positive experience. I enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and immersing myself in norweigan culture. The drawback was the cost of living but it did not hinder any activities I wanted to undertake and the money that I did spend felt worthwhile for the great experiences that came out of it. By the end of my time I was even becoming accustomed to the rain! Due to my experience, I am now contemplating studying a masters abroad.

Would you recommend other exchange students to study in Bergen?

I would definitely recommend this experience. The scenery around Bergen was stunning and being able to go hiking right next to a city was great. This compensated for the isolated location of Bergen. I enjoyed living in my halls and participating in university life with a mix of students. The whole situation was very relaxing. Despite Bergen's isolated location, it was easy to travel to other places in Norway and there are so many places I wanted to visit.
