Balanced harvest and the ecosystem approach to fisheries
The ICES Journal of Marine Science has published a theme section on "balanced harvesting".
The concept of "balanced harvesting" is now about six years old, and we have started to get a better understanding on merits and limits of this avenue towards an ecosystem approach to fisheries. This theme section, coordinated by Jeppe Kolding, Serge M. Garcia, Shijie Zhou, and Mikko Heino, discusses ecological, economical, legal, social, and operational issues surrounding the key management goals, as well as critique against the approach.
