Emnet belyser forskellige sider af den byzantinske materielle æstetik. Et aspekt er brugen af flerfarvet marmor og andre farvede stenarter til artikulering af vægge og gulve i byzantinske kirker. Longobardisk monumental kunst mellem øst og vest Deltagere: Torp, Kiilerich
Det langobardiske kapel, Tempietto Longobardo i Cividale del Friuli i Nord-Italia er blandt de monumenter som i 2011 blev indskrevet på UNESCO World Heritage List: Italia Langobardorum. Centri di potere e di culto (568-774 d.c.). Det var de norske forskere H.P. L’Orange (UiO) og H. Torp (UiO) som placerede ‘Tempietto’ i langobardisk tid (før 774). En international kongres med deltagere fra otte lande arrangeret af prof. Valentino Pace, Universitetet i Udine, fandt sted i Cividale i december 2008. Fra Norge deltog Torp (som moderator), og med foredrag Kiilerich og Signe Horn Fuglesang, prof. em. UiO (se aktiviteter). Nylige publikationer: H. Torp, Il Tempietto longobardo. AKTIVITETER (2008)
Hjalmar Torp har været officiel konsulent for kommunen i Cividale del Friuli, Nord-Italia i forbindelse med Italiens kandidatur til UNESCO World Heritage List: Italia langobardorum. Centri di potere e di culto. Torp og Kiilerich har været i Cividale i forbindelse med dette og for at studere og kommentere nye udgravninger i området.
