Esperanza Diaz er lege med utdannelse fra Spania (1995) og spesialist i allmennmedisin i Norge siden 2003. I tillegg til stillingene hennes som leder av Pandemisenteret siden 2020 og professor ved Institutt for Global helse og samfunnsmedisin ved UiB, jobber hun også som seniorforsker (20 %) ved Folkehelseinstituttet.
Diaz har forsket på innvandrerhelse siden 2008, skrevet over hundre fagfellevurderte artikler om emnet og utgitt boken Migrant Health: A Primary Care Perspective. Esperanza Diaz har lang erfaring med å samarbeide på tvers av fakulteter, institusjoner og grupper i befolkningen.
Prosjekter hun har jobbet på inkluderer det NFR-finansierte Endringer i helse- og helsebehov blant syriske flyktninger på vei til Norge, som hun ledet, og et prosjekt om livmorhalskreft hos innvandrere i Norge.
Undervisning i blant annet klinisk konsultasjon, ØNH i allmennpraksis, svangerskapskontroll i allmennpraksis, klinisk møte med pasienter fra andre kulturer, narrativ medisin, og uheldige hendelser, som en del av stilling ved UiB.
