Medisinsk spesialist og konsulent

Prof Francisco Gómez Real, MD PhD, deler sin tid mellom vitenskapelig og klinisk arbeid. Han er professor ved Institutt for Klinisk medisin (K2), Det Medisinske Fakultet (MOF) ved Universitetet i Bergen, Norge. Han er spesialist i gynekologi og fødselshjelp, jobber som konsulent ved Kvinneklinikken, Haukeland Universitetssykehus, og er ansvarlig for oppfølgingen av gravide kvinner med fedme. Han har erfaring fra allmennmedisin og lungemedisin.

Forskning

Real er banebryter og internasjonal ekspert innen forskning om kjønnshormoner, reproduktive- og metabolske faktorer, og tidlige livsfaktorer for lungehelse. Han er banebrytende for dette feltet gjennom sin egen doktorgrad, postdoktorarbeid, doktorgradsstudenter og postdoktor. Han er ansvarlig for kvinnehelse studier i kohortene Respiratory Health in Northern Europe (RHINE) og Respiratory Health in Northern Europe, Spain and Australia (RHINESSA), og medansvarlig for kvinnehelse studier i Europaen Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS).

Han leder Forskningsenhet for helseundersøkelser (FHU), en kjernefasilitet ved Universitetet i Bergen som gjennomfører kliniske forskningsprosjekter som ikke krever sykehusinfrastruktur. FHU er et samarbeid mellom Det Medisinske Fakultet og Haukeland universitetssykehus (HUS), administrativt underlagt Institutt for klinisk medisin, og finansiert av Trond Mohn Foundation/Trond Mohn Stiftelse (TMS).

Omfattende dekning av forskningsaktiviteter gjennom nasjonale og internasjonale medier (inkl. Reuters) - aviser (inkl. New York Times, Washington Post, Der Standard, El Pais, Aftenposten), magasiner (inkl. Dagens Medisin, Allergi i Praksis, Tidskriftet for den Norske Legeforeningen), kvinneblader (inkl. Han har mottatt Best Paper Awards, Norsk forning for lungemedisin, 2007 som første forfatter, og 2011, 2016 og 2017 som siste forfatter.

Han foreleser for 5. års medisinstudenter i gynekologi og fødselslære, i det engelske semsesteret, ved Universitetet i Bergen.

Han var ansvarlig for å organisere og starte klinisk praksis for 5. års medisinstudenter i det engelse semestert for gynekologi og fødselslære, Universitetet i Bergen.

Han har bygget en utmerket karriere innen reproduksjon og lungehelse hos kvinner, og over generasjoner. Han har 89 fagfellevurderte publikasjoner, inkludert 54 de siste 5 årene. Hans vitenskapelige produksjon er stigende, med 20 publikasjoner det siste to årene, 31 publikasjoner i topprangerte tidsskrifter (IF 8 eller høyere), og han er første/andre/ seniorforfatter på 26. Han er en erfaren veileder for forskere. Han har bidratt til 3 bokkapitler. Han er en erfaren forskningsveileder.

Prosjektleder og samarbeidspartner

Han samarbeider i sin forskning med Respiratory Health in Northern Europe (RHINE), European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS), Tasmanian Health Survey (TAHS), den sveitsiske kohortstudien om luftforurensning og lungesykdommer hos voksne (SAPALDIA), UK BioBank, PregMet-studien, og den transgenerasjonelle Respiratory Health in Northern Europe, Spain and Australia (RHINESSA). Han var PI i den banebrytende studien om Overgangsalder og respiratorisk helse, som Norges forskningsråd (NFR) finansierte, hvor ECRHS, RHINE og TAHS samarbeidet. Han tilbrakte seks måneder som postdoktor ved prof Shyamali Dharmage´s Allergy and Lung Health Unit, University of Melbourne. Han leder Reproductive Respiratory Health arbeidsgruppen for RHINE og RHINESSA studier, er med-leder i ECRHS Gender Working Group med AI Leynaert, og PI for ECRHS i Bergen.

Hans styrker som forsker er original- og innovativ tenkning, god nettverksbyggingskapasitet og erfaring med forskningsadministrasjon. Dette vises i artikler som har bidratt til ny tenkning i feltet.

Hans doktorgradsstudent og postdoktorforsker, Kai Triebner, har publiserte artikler som har vist at overgangsalderen er relatert til nyoppstått astma og akselerert lungefunksjonsfall (publisert i ledende luftveis- og allergitidsskrifter).
