Mine forskningsinteresser inkluderer teorier om sosial ulikhet i helse og interseksjonalitet. Jeg er spesielt opptatt av kvinners helse, kjønnsperspektiver på trygd og betydningen av interseksjonalitet i forskning på bærekraftig arbeidsdeltakelse. I forskningsgruppen for Arbeid, Helse og Kjønn stiller vi spørsmål ved den norske sykefraværsmodellen og etterspør mer tverrfaglig samtidighet i oppfølging av sykemeldte i primærhelsetjenesten.

Prosjekt KLAR - Kvinnehelse, overgangsalder og arbeidsliv. Fra 2023 har mitt engasjement vært rettet spesielt mot å utvikle et prosjekt der overgangsalder og arbeid står i sentrum. Det lite forskning på hvordan plager i kvinners overgangsalder kan påvirke arbeidsdeltakelse, og varierende kunnskap blant kvinner selv og i helsetjenesten. Mangel på kunnskap kan føre til at kvinners plager ikke blir assosiert til overgangsalder og dermed blir diagnostisert, behandlet og medisinert som uspesifikke kvinneplager. Uspesifikke plager knyttet til muskel-og skjelett og lettere psykiske lidelser er de viktigste årsakene til kvinners sykefravær og uførepensjon midt i livet.

I NORCE er mitt engasjement knyttet til ‘The Norwegian GP-DEP study’, en omfattende registerstudie der vi undersøker hvordan fastlegeordningen og fastlegers oppfølging av pasienter med depresjon kan bidra til bærekraftig arbeidsdeltakelse.

Kvinnehelseutvalgets rapport (NOU) påpeker at det trengs mer forskning for å fastslå hvilken rolle overgangsplager spiller i kvinners frafall fra arbeidslivet i denne alderen. Videre at det trengs mer forskning på overgangsalderens innvirkning på kvinners fysiske og psykiske helse, og hvordan overgangsalderen oppleves for kvinner i ulike sosioøkonomiske posisjoner.

Inger Haukenes er førsteamanuensis ved Institutt for global helse og samfunnsmedisin (IGS) ved Universitetet i Bergen og seniorforsker ved Forskningsenhet for allmennmedisin (AFE) i NORCE – Norwegian Research Centre. Haukenes leder forskningsgruppe for ‘Arbeid, helse og kjønn’ ved IGS og er sentral i The Norwegian GP-DEP study i NORCE.

Haukenes er utdannet fysioterapeut, har en mastergrad i filosofi (2004), og en doktorgrad i sosial epidemiologi (2013) der hun undersøkte sammenhengen mellom arbeid, klasse og kjønn, og uføretrygd i den norske velferdsstaten.

Fra 2014 ble Haukene ansatt som postdoktor ved Folkehelseinstituttet i Bergen, innen NFR sitt Arbeidslivsprogram, der tema var ‘Kvinners høyere sykefravær’.

Haukenes har hatt flere forskningsopphold ved Gøteborgs Universitet knyttet til forskningsgruppe for ‘Gendered inequalities in health and social security’, og ved Universitetet i Umeå/ Norrland Universitetssykehus knyttet til forskningsprosjektet ‘Jämställd vård’.
