Lars T. Fadnes er professor ved Institutt for global helse og samfunnsmedisin ved Universitetet i Bergen, og forskningsgruppeleder ved Haukeland universitetssykehus. Han er lege og spesialist i allmennmedisin og har diplom in tropemedisin. Fadnes har arbeidet med forskning på kostholdsmønstre og hvordan det er forbundet med kronisk sykdom, og har hatt samarbeid med forskere i Storbritannia, Uganda, Sør Afrika, Italia, Australia, og USA, med finansiering fra Forskningsrådet, Helse Vest og DAM. Hans forskning spenner over flere temaer inkludert kosthold og forbindelser til kronisk sykdom, ruslidelser og migrasjon. Fadnes har mer enn hundre vitenskapelige publikasjoner i fagfellevurderte tidsskrifter, har skrevet flere bøker (som forfatter og eller sentral bidragsyter), og har blitt omtalt i mange hundre nyhetssaker over hele verden. Han har også vært sentral i utviklingen av nasjonale og internasjonale retningslinjer relatert til både kosthold og ruslidelser. Han er medlem av Nasjonalt råd for ernæring og Vitenskapskomiteen for mat og miljø. Han har fått flere priser forskning og innovasjon inkludert Meltzerprisen for fremragende forskningsformidling (2022), Årets unge forsker i Vest (Helse Helse 2021), Falch junior prisen (2021), forskning og innovasjonsprisen (2020, Kunnskapskommunene), og har flere artikler blant de som har fått mest oppmerksomhet på Altmetric sin toppliste. Han leder forskningsgruppene HEMIX og Bergen Addiction Research (BAR), og har vært med å grunnlegge norsk kompetansenettverk for rusforskning (NORCATS), Han veileder/har veiledet >15 PhD-kandidater (inkludert 7 som har fullført og 6 som hovedveileder).
