Min bakgrunn er fra persistente miljøgifter og deres effekter på hormonsystemer og nerveutvikling i pattedyr, fra isbjørn til hvite mus. Jeg har erfaring fra prøvetakning og merking av ville dyr, kontrollerte lab-studier av pattedyr, og bruk av molekylærbiologiske og cellebiologiske metoder. Jeg har jobbet med marine miljøovervåkningsprogram med både prøvetaking og faglig rapportering, og har ledet større miljøundersøkelser for industri og næringsliv. De siste årene har forskningsfokus vært på makroplast forekomst og effekter i miljøet, samt mikroplast som miljøforurensning. Jeg har jobbet med metodeutvikling for kvantifisering av mikroplast, kartlegging og kvantifisering i diverse miljøprøver, fra havbunn, jord, vann og organismer, til mat for mennesker. Opptak og skjebne i næringskjeden er blant mine viktigste interesseområder. Cofunder av North Atlantic Microplastic Centre (NAMC) i 2020, hvor jeg er senterleder.
Jeg brenner for tverrfaglig samarbeid og faglig formidling. Jeg har organisert og deltatt i en rekke konferanser og eventer for ungdom, og har stilt opp i over 40 intervjuer på radio, TV og skriftlige medier med tema Plast de siste årene. For tiden aktuell med NRK serien Plasthavet, der jeg også var faglig konsulent for Pandora film AS under utvikling av serien.
