Hovudvekta av forskinga mi har vore innanfor traumefeltet og innan kvalitativ psykoterapiforsking. I forbindelse med tsunamien i 2004 gjorde eg eit forskingsprosjekt knytt til NKVTS der vi undersøkte helsetilstanden til tamiliar i Noreg som opplevde at familie og vener på Sri Lanka vart ramma av tsunamien. Doktorgradsprosjektet mitt utforska korleis klientar utsett for menneskepåførte traumer opplevde prosessen som leia fram til hjelpsøking, deltaking i traumespesifikk gruppebehandling og eigen tilfriskingsprosess. Deltakarane frå doktorgradsprosjektet vart også intervjua 1 år seinare, for å kunne utforske tilfrisking over tid og måten ein brukar terapirelaterte ressursar i tida etter behandling.
Eg er for tida medforskar i fleire ulike forskingsprosjekt, inkludert korleis BUP-tilsette jobbar med kartlegging av seksuelle overgrep og opplever dette arbeidet, foreldre si oppleving av emosjonsfokusert foreldreveiledning, klientar si oppleving av å motta COS-P på DPS, korleis brannmenn opplever å rykke ut til alvorlige trafikkulykker, og klientar, behandlarar og fastlegar sine perspektiv på drop-out frå spesialisert behandling for spiseforstyrrelse. I tillegg har eg initiert eit prosjekt der vi utforskar rolla til empati i god kvalitativ analyse.
Eg er også svært oppteken av klinisk opplæring, og korleis ein kan legge opp undervisninga så ein fasiliterer utvikling av terapeutiske ferdigheter på ein best mogleg måte. Saman med fleire kollegaer på Institutt for klinisk psykologi jobbar vi med å utvikle videoopptak av krevjande kliniske situasjonar som vi kan bruke i den kliniske opplæringa av studentane. Vi ynskjer på sikt å forske på effekten av denne typen opplæring.
Eg er svært oppteken av behandling av vanskar etter kompleks traumatisering, samt korleis ein kan utvikle og trene sentrale terapeutiske ferdigheter og relasjonell kompetanse. Undevisninga mi er i hovudvekt knytt til terapeutopplæring, kommunikasjonskompetanse og behandling av kompleks traumatisering. I tillegg underviser eg i kvalitativ metode.
