Ole J. Mjøs is Professor in Media Studies and author. He specializes in the fields of international communication and global media, focusing on the media and communications industries.

Ole convenes the new MA course MEVI301: The Global Media Landscape Autumn 2024 (in Norwegian).

He is currently working on a new research monograph, Schibsted: A Nordic Giant in A Global Context, contracted to Routledge's series Global Media Giants. 

His latest book is titled An Introduction to Global Media for the Twenty-First Century (Bloomsbury Academic, 2022). The book review in the European Journal of Communications states: "The book makes a strong contribution to the contemporary domain of knowledge on global media by drawing on a wide range of theoretical approaches to illustrate the diversity of media systems around the world." (25 August, 2023)

Ole is co-author of The Media Welfare State: Nordic Media in the Digital Era (University of Michigan Press, 2014). The book review in the European Journal of Communications concludes: "The book will likely become a standard reference for researchers and students who work with media in this region, and that will be well-deserved." (8 February, 2016). The book has now around 600 citations according to Google Scholar.

He is also sole author of the research monographs Music, Social Media and Global Mobility (Routledge, 2012), and Media Globalization and the Discovery Channel Networks (Routledge, 2010). 

Ole’s work has appeared in journals such as Media, Culture and Society, First Monday, International Communication Gazette, and Communication Research and Practice and he presents his work at international conferences regularly. He is member of the international advisory board of the journal Global Media and Communication.

He has been a visiting researcher at the Centre for Mobilities Research, Lancaster University, UK, and Visiting Scholar at the Center for Global Communication Studies, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

His previous practical experience in the media and creative sector includes work in television documentary production, and contributions on many records within the wide genre of electronic music.

Ole received his PhD in Media and Communications from University of Westminster, UK, and an MA in Transnational Communications and the Global Media, Goldsmiths College, University of London.
