Project period:

2007-01-01 to 2008-12-31

In this project we try to unravel the complex tectono-metamorphic evolution of the East African-Antarctic Orogen in Mozambique and Antarctica. This project represents an extension of the project DELAM in which we try to unravel especially the complex exhumation history of the southern part of the East African-Antarctic Orogen, that is characterised by orogenic collapse, lateral extrusion and large volumes of granite intrusions. With a variety of geochronological, thermochronological and petrological methods we are trying to investigate whether this part of the East African-Antarctic Orogen represents part of a delaminated orogenic root.
