Images of Power and the Power of Images

In this issue of Social Analysis, Judith Kapferer (ed) and her co-authors explore the symbolic meaning, control and ownership of public space as part of the relation between the arts and the state.

In her own article, Judith Kapferer takes the social situation of the art market at the Frieze Art Fair in London from 2006–2009 as the grounds of the analysis. She investigates some of the ways by which late modernity has reworked the values of national and post-national thinking in the direction of taken-forgranted meanings of class and status.
