Since the early 1970ies, Social Network Analysis has gained increasing attention and centrality in the social sciences. One of the principal areas in which social network analysis has been applied is in the investigation of inter-corporate power and interlocking directorships. A second major plank of network analysis has been the investigation of community structure.

Numerous other applications have extended SNA into political and policy networks, social movements, criminality and terrorism, religious networks etc.

This course will provide an overview of social network analysis (SNA) and illustrations of its uses in different areas of sociology. The course will be organised as a combination of lectures and computer lab sessions.
