Sensor technology for ocean parameters is developing quickly in response to technical innovations and availability of autonomous platforms such as sea-gliders and profiling as well as static floats.

The group has traditionally had a strong focus on technology development and intends to continue on this track funding permitting. The Polar Buoy and Sea-glider infrastructures at the institute naturally represent suitable devices to be employed also for chemical measurements.
