Theatre: The Forbidden Science Monologues

Hovedinnhold

Welcome to "The Forbidden Science Monologues", a theatre performance based on the real stories of threatened scholars.

The performer is Naila Al Atrash, a Syrian actor, director and university lecturer. Al Atrash is famous in her home country, but had to leave due to her teaching of critical theatre. She is currently a guest researcher and lecturer at the University of Agder, through the Scholars at Risk network, where the University of Bergen is also a member.

The Forbidden Science Monologues were adapted for theatre, and first performed in the Netherlands in 2010. The performance in Norway is directed by Ida Fugli, University of Agder.

The evening concludes with a conversation about freedom of speech and academic freedom, with Bergen City of Refuge Guest Writer Kareem Amer and Naila Al Atrash, led by Ragnhild Øien Guldvog (HiOA), leader of Scholars at Risk Norway.

Academic freedom is a core value of higher education and research, and when it is threatened, academia as a whole is threatened.

The event is in English, free of charge and open to all. Welcome to this thought provoking performance!
