What are ultra-processed foods (UPF) and are they bad for our health?

The term “ultra-processed food” is in the air – we hear it ever more often in public as well as scientific debates about our foods and diets. The seminar will attempt to define UPF, highlight the pros and cons and give an update on the literature on associations between UPF and health.

Helle Margrethe Meltzer is Dr.philos, dietitian, former head of research at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, and member of the National Nutrition Council. Dr. Meltzer has set the standard and her mark on nutritional research for several decades. She has had an extensive and impressive research career focusing primarily on food safety and nutritional exposure in pregnancy and childhood. At present, she is a member of the New Nordic Nutrition Recommendation 2022 Committee, specifically responsible for integrating sustainability into the new recommendations.
