The "hard problem" of individuation

After completing a PhD in biology at the Pasteur Institute in the laboratory of François Jacob, Pascal Nouvel developed a philosophical thesis on the role of imagination in scientific creation. Professor of philosophy at the University Paul Valéry Montpellier, he is the author of seven books including l’Histoire des amphétamines (PUF 2009), Enquête sur le concept de modèle (PUF 2003), and L’art d’aimer la science, psychologie de l’esprit scientifique (PUF 2000). Nouvel is also the Director of Centre d’Ethique Contemporaine at University Paul Valéry and leads the research program on “epistemology of affects”.
