The Role of Hydropower for the Future

Hovedinnhold

Liv Randi Hultgreen, Executive Director of FME HydroCen and Gine Kirkebøen Støren, master student at NTNU, will talk about the role of hydropower in the future.

Abstract

FME HydroCen is a research center for environmentally friendly energy. Our main objective is to enable hydropower to meet complex challenges and exploit new opportunities through innovative technological solutions.
The center started in 2016 and will finish in 2024. It’s hosted by NTNU, with NINA and SINTEF as main R&D partners, and 34 industry partners.
We conduct research on all hydropower related disciplines; dams & waterways, turbine & generators, market & services, and environmental design.
Hydropower plays a vital role as Europe and the world moves towards a 100% renewable future, as the enabler of wind and solar energy. Hydropower is the backbone that delivers security of electricity supply, filling in when the sun don’t shine, and the wind stops blowing.

Seminar speakers

Every year +60 MSc students graduate from NTNU with a degree within Hydropower. They have access to +3000 m2 laboratories, and conduct research projects in cooperation with R&D and industry partners. The presentation will include examples from some of these students that are currently working on their Master thesis; Gine Kirkebøen Støren.
Liv Randi Hultgreen is Executive Director for the center. She has a MSc degree in marine engineering from NTNU, has previously been Assistant Professor at NTNU for 9 years, and Enginering Leader at GE Oil & Gas / Baker Hughes for 7 years.
