Hovedinnhold

Abstract

For the transition to renewable energy sources, hydrogen as an energy carrier is seen as a promising solution. With many initiatives globally to start producing hydrogen, it is important to keep a satisfactory level of safety. However, hydrogen-air mixtures are highly reactive and result in conventional safety technologies for explosion protection having limited applications. In the past decades, systems have been developed for partial suppression of vapor cloud explosions of hydrocarbons with solid inhibitors; relatively small additions of chemicals to drastically reduce the reactivity of the mixture. The aim is to develop a similar system for hydrogen. This presentation gives insight into how these inhibitors work and what has been done in this field so far.
