Hovedinnhold

Due to new regulations from UiB in relation to the corona-virus, this lunch meeting has been postponed. Note the lunch meeting the 12th of May which will touch upon some similar issues.

On Tuesday 17th of March, Stein Wallace, will present his talk "Freight distribution in Bergen". Wallace is professor and Head of Centre for Shipping and Logistics at the Department of Business and Management Science at NHH Norwegian School of Economics.

Abstract: The population densities in city centres increase, also in Bergen. At the same time, internet trade increases for many different reasons. A net result is that more freight needs to go into the city, in particular, the number of packages will increase substantially. But for a livable, green, smart and sustainable city, we want more space for people, not less. We also want less pollution, be that noise, dust or whatever transportation brings with it. We ask: Can and should authorities do something to regulate freight in topologically complicated cities like Bergen? What are the options? Will they work? Centre for Shipping and Logistics at NHH and Centre for Climate and Energy Transformation (CET) at UiB, with several user partners have just started a project under The Research Council of Norway (CITYFREIGHT) to study freight in small cities. In this presentation, the project will be seen from the NHH standpoint, while a later presentation will cover the UiB perspectives (May 12).

This seminar will be held in room Room 614, Faculty of social science (Fosswinckels gate 6), from 12:15 to 13:00 (we open the doors at 12:00). As always, it is free and open to all interested parties, so bring your lunch and join us for an interesting presentation followed bya Q&A session.
