Bio

Established in 1879 GC Rieber is a privately owned company operating in several industries. The GC Rieber Group’s common vision statement is Creating Joint Futures. Tor Instanes is the CEO of GC Rieber Real Estate and leads the company with a team of 35 colleagues.

GC Rieber Real Estate works with several public and private partners to develop two former shipyards in Bergen, Marineholmen and Solheimsviken. The last 20-30 years these areas have been transformed from empty, closed off shipyards into sustainable and inclusive innovation district. The development of the district focus on both Play, Stay and Work. Creating pulse and attractiveness for startups, students, businesses and research institutions and the city inhabitant throughout both the workday, evening and weekend. In total approximately 8.000 employees work in these areas today. Marineholmen, as the name implies, primarily contain an ecosystem within marine sector. Solheimsviken is more focused on finance and technology. GC Rieber Real Estate has a strategy to create a leading innovation district that create value both for the ecosystem and the city.

Abstract

Efficient and sustainable energy use in buildings

The building sector alone contribute to 40 % of global carbon emissions. GC Rieber Real estate goal is to be in the forefront of building and operating sustainable buildings. Finding the right energy mix is part of this work. The buildings at Marineholmen and Solheimsviken has a energy mix of electricity, central heating, solar, seawater and batteries. The presentation will focus on how we work towards building at operating sustainable commercial real estate buildings.
