Hovedinnhold

We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the Erik Østby Archaeology Stipend for the 2024-2025 academic year: Mr. Francesco Maniglia, a PhD student in Ancient History at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation, and History, UiO, and Mrs. Clio Chrysostomidis, an MA student in Archaeology at the same department.

Both scholars will be joining our Research Affiliate program as they conduct their studies in Greece, contributing to our shared mission of advancing archaeological research.

Project Descriptions

  • Francesco Maniglia: Mr. Maniglia’s project, which forms part of a forthcoming PhD thesis, delves into the cultural transformations in Magna Graecia following Roman conquest. This research focuses on the integration of Italiote Greeks and how they were represented externally.

  • Clio Chrysostomidis: Mrs. Chrysostomidis is working on a master’s thesis, which investigates the potential correlation between high infant mortality rates and the use of ceramic vessels to feed infants with breastmilk or substitutes in Classical and Hellenistic Athens.

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our 2024-2025 stipend recipients at the Norwegian Institute at Athens (NIA). Their work will culminate in an open lecture, where they will present their findings to the broader academic community.

Stay tuned for updates on their progress and the details of their upcoming presentations!
