UiB making its mark at third UN Ocean Conference

The University of Bergen is travelling to the third UN Ocean Conference with a delegation representing a multidisciplinary team from across faculties. On this page we present an overview of our activities in Nice.

The University of Bergen (UiB) is Norway's only and one of few universities globally to have attended all UN Ocean Conferences. For the third installation (UNOC3) in Nice 9-13 June we arrive with an all-women delegation of representatives from across academic and scientific disciplines headed by Rector Margareth Hagen. Some of the UiB delegates will also be present at the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC), 3-6 June.

As the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) SDG14 Hub Chair and the SDG14 Cluster Lead for the UNESCO-affiliated International Association of Universities, both since 2018, we are proud to call ourselves the global SDG14 university. We also bring two officially endorsed Ocean Decade Actions – N-POC and SEAS – to Nice.

We look forward to bringing our scientific knowledge to UNOC3 and Nice!

Navigating Common Waters: Ocean Science Diplomacy for a Sustainable Common Future

This side event on 10 June during the third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3) explored the emerging field of ocean science diplomacy bringing together researchers, diplomats, practitioners and others operating on the science-policy nexus.

The UiB delegation for UNOC3 in Nice

The University of Bergen is sending a delegation of seven women academic and scientific staff to participate at the third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice 9-13 June as well as the preceding One Ocean Science Congress and other activities with partners from Bergen, Norway and internationally.

Challenges for effective communication of the UN Ocean Decade to various stakeholders

In this interactive workshop, experts, including those from the European Marine Board Communication Panel (EMBCP) will share their experience in ocean communication and work with different stakeholders. The event is open to all and free to attend. Welcome!

UiB making its mark at UN Ocean Conference

Between 5 and 9 June 2017, the University of Bergen participated at the United Nations Ocean Conference in New York. Among the university's activities at the conference were the presentation of voluntary commitments with partner institutions in South Africa and the Pacific.
