Symmetric products

The starting point for this project will be a study of the specific space: the "nth symmetric product of tori". These spaces are important in algebraic geometry as well as in algebraic topology and which aspects are emphasised can, in some degree, be chosen by the student. The context in which we shall put these spaces is that of group operations. If an algebraic approach is chosen, MAT321 should be followed and a collaboration with the algebra/algebraic geometry group would be natural.
