CCBIO receives significant funding
The Helse Vest Strategic Program has granted 15 mill NOK to CCBIO in collaboration with Helse Bergen and Helse Stavanger for the project “Personalized cancer therapy – biomarkers in clinical trials” (2015-2019). CCBIO recently also received funding for several individual projects: two with funding from the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and three Helse Vest grants from Samarbeidsorganet.

CCBIO Centre of Excellence in collaboration with Helse Bergen and Helse Stavanger Health Trust has qualified to a strategic regional health grant for development and establishment of more precise diagnostics for individualized therapy of cancer patients in 2015-2019. The project, coordinated by CCBIO PI Bjørn Tore Gjertsen, will support ongoing and planned clinical trials in advanced cancer, and intend to facilitate availability for early phase clinical studies with novel therapeutic concepts for patients in our region. Biomarkers in liquid biopsies will be tested and established for detection and surveillance of tumors and tumor heterogeneity, providing our cancer patients with diagnostics for more accurate therapy at diagnosis and relapse.
Bjørn Tore Gjertsen received funding from the RCN for the years 2015-2018 for his project “Next generation leukemia diagnostics and therapy through p53 isoform analysis”, abbreviated ISOTARGET. Gjertsen applied for 9 mill NOK from the RCN, but the final sum to be granted from the RCN is not yet clarified.
James Lorens received funding from the RCN for the project “Axl regulates stem cell traits in normal and malignant epithelial cells: Basic biology and clinical translation”. Lorens applied for 9 mill NOK from the RCN, but the final sum to be granted from the RCN is not yet clarified.
Rolf Reed received a Helse Vest grant of 1,2 mill NOK dispersed over a period of three years for the project “Loose connective tissues in fluid exchange: In vivo function of integrin alfaVbeta3”.
Mara Kolsnes Lie, with her supervisors James Lorens and Lars A. Akslen, received a Helse Vest grant for her PhD-project “Microenvironmental Regulation of Cancer Therapy Responses" for the period 2015-2017.
Oddbjørn Straume received a one year Helse Vest grant of 500 000 NOK for his project “Importance of physical trauma on time to recurrence after primary treatment of breast cancer. Can surgical or traumatic tissue trauma synchronize growth of dormant micrometastases?”.
