How to deal with hip osteoarthritis?
Research and course collaboration between Physiotherapy Research Group at IGS and Orthopedic Department at Haukeland University Hospital (HUH).

A new course, a Hip School for patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA) in Hordaland, will be offered at the Learning and Mastery center in Bergen, Ulriksdal 2, starting this October 28th. The overall focus is empowerment of the patients. By learning how to better deal with the OA condition (adjustment of bodily movements and activities, weight control, diet etc.), hip joint replacement surgery may be postponed or even become unnecessary.

Patients participating in the Hip School will be asked to participate in a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT), led by Professor Liv Inger Strand at the Physiotherapy Research Group. The aim of the trial is to examine the supplementary effect of movement therapy (Basic Body Awareness Therapy)in group settings over time, aiming for better body alignment and quality of movement in daily life activities, as shown in a previous pilot study. Long-term effects are of particular interest.
