Access to jobs is the main vehicle to poverty reduction and the most important determinant of living standards around the world. To end poverty and promote shared prosperity, we need more jobs and better jobs. Is there a role for donors to contribute to job creation in poor countries?
David McKenzie is one of the world’s leading researchers on income generation and private sector development in poor countries. He is a Lead Economist in the World Bank Development Research Group, Finance and Private Sector Development Unit. He received his PhD in Economics from Yale University and spent four years as an assistant professor of Economics at Stanford University before he joined the World Bank.
McKenzie has published more than 100 research articles in journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Science, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of the European Economic Association, Economic Journal, American Economic Journal: Applied Micro, Journal of Econometrics, and all leading development journals. He is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of Development Economics, the World Bank Economic Review, and Migration Studies. He is also a co-founder and regular contributor to the Development Impact Blog.
