Hovedinnhold
The Takemi Program in International Health runs annually and brings together young researchers, mainly from Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) to spend an academic year at the Harvard T. H. Chan of Public Health.
Takemi Fellows have the space and the opportunity to work on their own topics of interest while benefiting from a broad range of academic activities focusing on enhancing their capacity for research and leadership.
In 2021, Lelisa Fekadu finished his Ph.D. at BCEPS and was subsequently selected as a Takemi scholar for the 2021-22 cohort. He shares his impressions of the overall experience with the program:
"In summary, the Takemi fellowship helped me to advance my career goals with a wider experience and hands-on practice in priority setting, health economic evaluation and leadership toward valuably contributing to health policy decision-making globally and in Ethiopia. The program also gave me an opportunity to interact with other fellows to advance my analytic skills and knowledge of statistical and economic packages."
This year, BCEPS will be represented by PhD Candidate Anand Bhopal and Postdoctoral Research Fellow Alemayehu Hailu.
Anand highlights the interaction with the diverse group of people who are in the program:
“I'm really looking forward to meeting them and learning more about other parts of the world and how things are done elsewhere”.
He adds that "a big part of it is networking, building these contacts, geting to know people in different parts of the world who could be potential collaborators and colleagues in the future".
Alemayehu is looking forward to the broad range of courses offered:
“…The program will create an opportunity for me to access the whole range of advanced courses and faculties at Harvard. Therefore, this fellowship program will help me deepen my knowledge of theory and practice of equity analysis, priority setting, and economic evaluation through relevant coursework and face-to-face meetings”
The program was established in 1983 and currently encompasses a global network of more than 300 fellows from 56 countries, who hold leadership positions in policy, national and international agencies, and academia.
