Hovedinnhold

Studying Geography in Bergen has been very fulfilling to me. Not only has my theoretical understanding of geography been increased but also my analytical appreciation of concepts and practical issues have been advanced as well.

Master Project

The contributions of markets and market traders to socio-economic development cannot be over looked in Ghana. However, on one hand markets are face with serious infrastructural problems and lack of investments. On the other hand, market traders sometimes become victims of physical attacks, discrimination and targets of unfavourable local, national as well as foreign policies and programmes.

With plans under-way for the re-development of the TMC into a modern market center, this study aims at understanding the operations of the TMC in terms of control and management as well as the complexity of activities taking place there. It sets out to explore perception of market trade among the traders and also their daily life experiences and challenges. It seeks to discover what traders considered as their most pressing needs and what could be done to make life in the market better for them. Again, it explores the proposed re-development plans for the TMC and investigate the extent to which the plans have been advanced and the involvement of the market traders.

Field Work

My field work experience was very exciting. It was a time to put into practice what I had acquired from my methodology lessons. It called for independent thinking and judgement. The credit goes to my wonderful lecturers and supervisor who prepared me for the encounter.
