We Make Our Own History: Marxism and Social Movements in the Twilight of Neoliberalism

Alf Gunvald Nilsen, associate professor at the Department of Sociology, has co-authored the book We Make Our Own History: Marxism and Social Movements in the Twilight of Neoliberalism (Pluto Press, August 2014), with Laurence Cox, a sociologist based at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth.

Hovedinnhold

In the book, they argue that Marxist theory is a highly relevant resource for understanding social movements - not just from an academic standpoint, but also in relation to the strategic challenges that activists confront in their daily practices. Nilsen and Cox analyze the emergence of neoliberalism as a political project, and discuss the wave of protests which in recent times have challenged its legitimacy. They discuss their new book in two recent articles in E-International Relations and Discover Society.
