Hovedinnhold

The seminar will give glimpses of  the long history of research and education collaboration between the Department of Social Anthropology at UiB and the University of Karthoum. Gunnar Håland asks why Sudan has been such a fertile field for anthropological theorizing, and Abdel Ghaffar M. Ahmed looks at how anthropologists since the 1960s have addressed issues such as ethnicity and fragmentation in Sudan.

The other participants in this “Sudan Group” will add their voices, based on their own experiences, whether in Sudan or in Norway. Taken together the seminar will not provide a unified conceptual or theoretical message, but will illustrate the particular value of this type of long durée anthropological relationships.
