Hovedinnhold

The Web as the the dominant platform

Since the mid-1990s, the Web has grown to be the dominant platform for distributing news and information, and essential for social interaction. Web technology has also expanded the public sphere, allowing a wide range of actors to enter public debate through non-editor-controlled blogs, podcasts, webzines and more.

The National Library of Norway (NLN) has collected web media since the early 2000s and is now working to develop services for researchers to access these collections. In this lecture/other research librarian Jon Carlstedt Tønnessen (NLN) will present:

  • NLN’s effort to archive web data
  • Examples from the Norwegian Web Archive
  • How researchers can understand web media as digital artefacts
  • Current efforts to make archival resources accessible to research
  • Some main opportunities and challenges for researchers engaging with web content as a primary source.

The event is given in cooperation with  Center for Digital Narrative - CDN and lunch will be served.
