Elisabeth Flo-Groeneboom er psykolog og professor ved Institutt for klinisk psykologi, Det psykologiske fakultet, Universitetet i Bergen (UiB), og leder for Human Light Lab og “Bergen Research group for Innovation, Growth, Health and Technology” (BRIGHT). Etter hun tok doktorgrad innen søvnmedisin jobbet Flo-Groeneboom ved Senter for alders- og sykehjemsmedisin ved Det medisinske fakultet, UiB.
I dag forsker hun på og underviser om ikke-farmakologiske intervensjoner, søvn og døgnrytmer, psykiske helseutfordringer gjennom livet, og funksjon hos eldre og personer med demens.
Aktuell forskning har et klinisk anvendt fokus, med en bredde fra eksperimenter i lyslaboratoriet til implementering av komplekse intervensjoner i Randomiserte kontrollerte studier (RCT).

Optimale lysbetingelser for bedre hukommelse og humør (ENLIGHT)
ENLIGHT-prosjektet undersøker hvorvidt lysterapi kan være en effektiv måte å forbedre tilværelsen for hjemmeboende personer med demens. Mangelen på systematiske og grunnleggende studier med personer med demens gjør dette til et viktig for videre teoretisk og metodologisk utvikling.
DEM.LIGHT
Psykisk lidelse, atferds- og søvnproblemer rammer 90 % av personer med demens. I sykehjem i dag benyttes i stor grad psykofarmaka for å dempe symptomene, men det er ofte med manglende effekt og betydelige bivirkninger. Lysterapi viser lovende resultater, men det er et behov for større randomiserte og kontrollerte studier.
DEM.LIGHT installerte lysterapi-rom på demensenheter for å undersøke effekten på søvn, døgnrytme, atferdsproblemer, psykisk lidelse, medikamentbruk, smerte og livskvalitet.
KOSMOS
KOSMOS står for «KOmmunikasjon, Smertebehandling, Medikamentgjennomgang, Organisering av aktiviteter og Sikkerhet». KOSMOS er en praktisk intervensjon rettet mot kliniske og psykiatriske problemer, overmedisinering og sosiale behov hos pasienter på sykehjem.
