This is the Christie Conference

The most important arena for cooperation between the university and civil society in the west of Norway.

Hovedinnhold

The first Christie Conference was officially opened by Gunnar Bakke, the mayor of Bergen, on 26 April 2010.

- The University of Bergen already has a very good relationship with civil society and trade and industry, but we are concerned with how this relationship can be further strengthened, UiB rector Sigmund Grønmo said.

The aim of the conference is to create the most important regional arena for interaction between the academia and civil society. The topics that have been discussed are how to create values in the west of Norway, the university’s role in the development of civil society and how Norwegian research and development can make a difference internationally. Renowned names like the minister of research and higher education, Tora Aasland, the minister of foreign affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre, leader of the Conservative Party of Norway, Erna Solberg, and international researchers and business leaders have attended the conference throughout the years.

The Christie Conference is a key part of UiB’s plan of action for the relationship between the university and civil society. The University Liaison Office is the secretariat for the conference.
