Raman laboratorium

The Raman spectroscopy analytical facility is equipped with a Horiba LabRAM HR confocal Raman spectrometer from 2009, coupled to an Olympus BX41 petrographic microscope and a motorized x–y mapping stage. The system is designed for rapid identification and characterization of minerals, microfossils, and other geological materials using Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence analysis.

The spectrometer is configured for visible-light Raman analysis using an argon-ion laser with 488 nm and 514.5 nm excitation wavelengths, together with a near-infrared diode laser at 785 nm. The system is equipped with a visible CCD detector and supports point analyses, line scans, two-dimensional Raman mapping, and depth profiling. With suitable microscope objectives, the system provides sub-micrometre lateral spatial resolution and micrometre-scale depth resolution, allowing detailed characterization of small mineral grains, inclusions, and textural domains.

Spectral acquisition, peak fitting, map construction, and spectral interpretation are performed using Horiba software packages. The instrument is therefore suitable for routine mineral identification and detailed Raman spectral characterization of geological materials, as well as applications involving archaeological specimens, organic materials, microfossils, pigments, carbonaceous matter, and material science samples.
