Hovedinnhold

In this seminar, Andreas Mattsson will present some of his findings from his ongoing doctoral project at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki. His project examines how Swedish media aid contributed to the development of the journalism profession in Vietnam from 1993 until 2007 by providing training for Vietnamese journalists. The research is framed by a “clash of media systems”. The overall aim of the programme was to “democratize” and “modernize” journalism in Vietnam. The activities were designed to convey journalism ideology, technology, and media ethics from Sweden for implementation in Vietnamese newsrooms. This presentation will address how one can understand various concepts of journalism and discuss media aid as a concept and a tool for change.
