New associate professor: Erik Knudsen

As we enter the new year, we warmly welcome Erik Knudsen in his new position as Associate Professor at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies.

Bergen Media Use Research Group warmly welcomes Erik Knudsen with his new, permanent appointment as associate professor at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies.

Erik Knudsen is an internationally recognized expert in quantitative audience research, and has worked at the University of Bergen for 12 years. He was a postdoctoral fellow at DIGSSCORE until 2020, and has since become head of the NEWSREC project as well as a key part of the research team at SFI MediaFutures.

Knudsen has specialist expertise in quantitative media and audience research, effects of use of new and established media, trust in journalism and effects of political communication. He has written a doctoral thesis on the media's power of representation and impact on attitudes and institutions - based on the media's coverage of NAV. Furthermore, he has broad experience in research that uses experimental designs and advanced statistical analyzes of media texts and opinion formation. His work has been published in renowned journals such as Journal of Communication, Political Communication, Digital Journalism and Journalism.
