Multiphase systems (MS) focus on various aspects involving fluid mechanics and heat transfer.

Main research topics for MS include flow assurance (e.g. hydrate plugging), pneumatic conveying in pipelines, novel mathematical methods for the modelling of particle-particle interactions in two-phase flows, and the use of nanofluids for solar energy applications.

MS pioneered the use of novel experimental techniques, such as Particle Positron Emission Tomography (PPET), for studying solid particle flow in gases.

The projects on flow assurance involved project partners such as Equinor, SINTEF, and Chevron.
