The wokshop was led by esteemed trainers from the University of Bergen (UiB):

  • Professor Olena Dubovyk, Department of Geography
  • Associate Professor Benjamin A. Robson, Department of Earth Sciences
  • Associate Professor Gidske L. Andersen, Department of Geography

This workshop is a crucial part of the cooperation initiative between the Department of Geography at UiB and IITA within IITA's Resilient Agri-Food Systems: Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems project. The project in UiB is led by Prof. Olena Dubovyk, underscoring the commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices through innovative technologies.

This workshop delved into the depths of UAV technology, covering critical aspects such as UAV data acquisition, processing, and analysis. The trainers, each expert in their respective fields, facilitated sessions ensuring a balance between theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience.

About the University of Bergen (UiB): The University of Bergen (UiB) is a globally recognized institution committed to research and education across various disciplines, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and societal development.

About IITA: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research institution dedicated to addressing challenges in agriculture and ensuring food security across the tropics.

The Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems Initiative aims to provide equitable, transformative pathways for improved livelihoods of actors in mixed farming systems through sustainable intensification within target agroecologies and socio-economic settings.

Through action research and development partnerships, the Initiative will improve smallholder farmers' resilience to weather-induced shocks, provide a more stable income and significant benefits in welfare, and enhance social justice and inclusion for 13 million people by 2030.

Activities will be implemented in six focus countries globally representing diverse mixed farming systems as follows: Ghana (cereal–root crop mixed), Ethiopia (highland mixed), Malawi: (maize mixed), Bangladesh (rice mixed), Nepal (highland mixed), and Lao People's Democratic Republic (upland intensive mixed/ highland extensive mixed).
