Mål og innhald

The course provides a basic overview over the European economy. It offers knowledge and evaluation on the economic development of Europe and its challenges until today. The course provides an overview over important processes which have led to Europe`s economy of today. The course focuses at the demographic and economic development in Europe after 1945.

Main points are:

  1. Economic growth and structural changes after World War II. This includes the use of human and technical resources as well as innovations
  2. Differences in the allocation of resources and reactions upon it, including changes in the amount of population.
  3. Globalization; unification after the collapse of socialism in Eastern Europe.

The course is mandatory for students in the Bachelor-program European studies, but it can be taken by other students as well. The course can be part of the direction of specialization in history.

At the end of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes:

  • has knowledge on the development of institutions, systems, and processes which were involved in shaping European history since 1945.
  • knows the most important theories and debates on this development.

  • shows ability to critically evaluate historical problems.
  • demonstrates their know-how by analyzing related literature and their ability to drawing own conclusion on it.

  • shows ability to study comprehensive related literature
  • shows their know-how and explain own conclusions in a written exam.

Good command of English, both written and spoken.

Krav til studierett

The course is open for students enrolled at the University of Bergen. Students without admission may be granted permission to sign up for this course on the basis of an application to the Faculty of Humanities

  • 6 hours written exam

Grades will be set using a scale of A to F.

Litteraturliste

The reading list is submitted by June 1th for the Autumn semester and by December 1th for the Spring semester

Reading lists with compulsory curriculum are prepared by the Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion (in total, approximately 1200 pages).

The course unit will be evaluated regularly

The programme committe is the course coordinator and is responsible for the quality of the programme and all the courses in it.

  • Klokkeslett for oppstart av skoleeksamen kan endre seg fra kl 09.00 til 15.00 eller vice versa inntil 14 dager før eksamen. Eksamenslokale publiseres 14 dager før eksamen. Kandidatene finner sin egen romplassering på Studentweb 3 dager før eksamen.
