Moods

Undergraduate course

Course description

Supplementary semester information

In this module, we will explore moods, affect, and atmosphere in dialogue with sonic practice. We will reflect on the ways in which sound moves us - how we are affected by, and in turn affect, our surroundings through sound and listening.

Together, we will tune in to everyday environments, listen to sound works and music, read and discuss texts which connect to the themes of the course. We will explore elements of sonic practice such as improvisation, recording, digital composition, and installation, though workshops and collaborative exercises.

The aim is for participating students to experiment with sonic processes and technologies, and develop individual or collaborative projects which are shared with the group in the last week of the course.

The module will include guest lectures and field trips.

Focus area: SOUND
