This research project aims to study temporality within mandated governance networks both through intra-organizational interactions and network evolution.

Hovedinnhold

There is increased attention and practice towards partnerships and networks as vehicles to achieve policy outcomes due to the “growing need for Inter‐organizational structures between organizations to deal with the growing complexity of interactions in the public and private sphere”.

However, “temporal dimensions”, as a social construct of time, has not been subject to as much research, with competing and overlapping frameworks, and limited empirical research has been developed. This is even more the case in aspects of interactions between network members within and across governance levels, such as organizational life-cycles or (lack of) synchronicity in the temporal characteristics of organizational action. By exploring these temporal aspects, this project will provide insights about new governance solutions, including collaborative networks and temporary organizations.

The study is within the framework of DemoTrans (The Interchange Between Democratic Institutions and the Globalisation of the Economy), which is a Horizon Europe funded project (Grant agreement ID: 101059288). DemoTrans, led by KU Leuven (Belgium), brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of six experienced and leading research groups from four European research universities (including University of Bergen) and an NGO with a strong track record. Building on their wide-ranging expertise, DemoTrans is developing novel theoretical and empirical academic research aimed at robust recommendations to encourage stronger democratic accountability and inclusion in economic processes.
