Political seniority – explaining gender gaps in political endurance among Norwegian local representatives and parties.

Hovedinnhold

"I`d give up my seat for you if it wasn`t for the fact that i`m sitting in it" - Groucho Marx

While we know much about what increases female representation in elected assemblies, the knowledge of what makes women stay over time is scarce. Earlier studies suggest that women have shorter political careers than men and, therefore, less chance of accumulating the time and experience to become a “political senior”. A political senior is defined as a representative who has been elected for three periods or more. This project aims to advance our understanding of gender gaps in political seniority at the local level.
